iPads @ OBA 2016/17

Individual access to technology will help our Academy to provide learning opportunities that excite, motivate and challenge our students, and encourages lifelong learning and an interest in the world around them. The digital skills our students will develop will enable them to make a significant contribution when they enter the workplace, in any field they choose to follow.

One-to-one learning also enables students to personalise their learning environment, to ensure that each student can identify their strengths and build on any other skills through 24-7 access to online resources. Problem solving is improved and attainment is increased in those students given personalised access to technology for learning.

Within a learning environment, iPads can be used for the following:

• as a research tool
• to take notes and / or create exam revision materials
• to present information in new and engaging ways
• as an assessment tool
• for coursework
• for homework
• to work with other students outside of school hours

We would like to give all of our students the opportunity to benefit from 1:1 learning. Although this technology can be expensive, our programme allows students, parents and guardians the opportunity to pay for these devices on a monthly basis. Using special education pricing and low public sector lending rates, we have developed the most cost effective way of allowing all students to benefit from the most inspiring learning environment possible.   • WHAT HAPPENS IF A DEVICE IS DAMAGED?

    The devices are all covered by a 1 year accidental damage and theft insurance policy. A claim for accidental damage or theft can be processed by the student/parent by going to our partner’s iPad portal and complete the claim request form. An assessment will be made to the nature of the damage before the device is collected and either repaired or replaced. In the case of mechanical breakdown, you will be covered by the included warranty for a period of 1 year. Warranty claims are to be processed in the same way as insurance claims.
  • WHAT HAPPENS IF A DEVICE IS LOST OR STOLEN?

    The process of making a claim for theft is the same as for accidental damage, visit the iPad portal and fill in the associated forms. When submitting a claim for theft of the device you will be asked to supply a Police Crime number (issued upon the report of the theft from a local police station) which the insurance company will need to process the claim.
  • CAN MY CHILD BRING IN THEIR OWN TABLET IF THEY HAVE ONE ALREADY?

    If your child already owns an iPad, or you would like to purchase one outside of the programme, they may bring it to school, subject to academy policy. Any devices not purchased through the programme will not be insured.
