Philosophy & Ethics

Introduction

The study of Religious Education offers answers to life’s deepest questions. Young people are often seeking answers to poignant questions as they grow into independence, this curriculum allows a forum for these questions to be examined and discussed. Religious Education creates opportunities for personal reflection, debate and provokes challenging questions about the purpose of life, beliefs, issues of right and wrong and what it means to be human. We appreciate the need for students to gain valuable learning experiences via diverse teaching and learning strategies. Pupils will get the chance to listen to case studies, work with the local community and gain an insight into their local surroundings preparing them for the wider world. It challenges pupils to reflect on, consider, analyse, interpret and evaluate issues of truth, belief, faith and ethics and to communicate their responses. Religious Education encourages pupils to acquire an inquisitive and open mind preparing them for adult life, enhancing employability. This curriculum offers a vast array of cross–curricular links between the Humanities and other subject areas.
