Introduction
BTEC (Certificate) in Travel and Tourism Level 2 is a six-unit qualification combining a portfolio with controlled assessment and is broadly equivalent to one GCSE. The qualification is designed to give students the chance of understanding the vastness of the travel and tourism industry and how it can offer a range of employment opportunities. Unit 1 covers the concept of tourism, its importance to the UK economy and the range of travel and tourism component industries. Unit 2 enables learners to explore the different approaches to customer service, whereas unit 3 helps students to gain awareness of the world from the perspective of the worldwide traveller, looking at worldwide geography and world climate conditions. Unit 6 looks more specifically at U.K. tourist destinations and enhances the students’ research skills. Unit 9 allows students to put together everything they have learned so far to plan a holiday to meet a specific customer’s needs and unit 13 helps learners to understand the risk assessment process for study visits.
