PSA

With the opening of the new Ormiston Bushfield Academy in September, there are important and exciting developments for students and parents alike.

The range of activities the PSA covers can be broken down into 5 separate areas. These are: -

1. Fundraising
We have done many sponsored events in the past but more recently there have been Race Nights, Bingo Evenings and a General Knowledge Quiz with fish and chip suppers. A music quiz night is next on the agenda for early Autumn, just after half-term.

Funds raised have provided new equipment for Duke of Edinburgh courses as well as specialist items to further enhance teaching and learning within the Academy.

2. Consultation on Academy Policies
Parents are consulted and briefed on Policies and are also being kept advised at all stages of the plans for the new buildings that will follow in the next two years for the Academy. Parents have direct access to the Senior Leadership Team and can raise concerns in a totally informal manner.

The PSA has been involved in the review of the format for Parent’s Evenings and has tested computer gateways for new ways of learning and revising at home.

3. Raising Parental Awareness
The PSA is heavily involved in helping put on special events to support the Academy in making sure parents are fully aware of all that is happening.

4. Supporting College Events
This will range from practical help such as providing refreshments at shows and open evenings to a major role in being on hand to answering questions from prospective parents at the Open Evenings.

5. Having Fun Together
There is a light-hearted social side to the PSA and our fundraising events.

Meetings are very informal , are once a term and last about an hour. With The Ormiston Trust having given the commitment that the PSA will be seen as a vital part in the overall decision making process of the Academy, never before have parental views been so important.

If you would like to help shape the future of your son’s or daughter’s education and join the PSA then please contact me using the Academy’s office. Leave your name, address, telephone or email address and I will contact you.
