Residential and Day Trips

At OBA, we recognise the profound impact that trips and visits can have on a student’s education. Beyond the classroom, these experiences enrich learning, foster independence, and inspire a deeper engagement with the world.

Throughout the academic year, we offer a diverse programme of opportunities designed to broaden horizons and spark curiosity. From theatre performances and university lectures to residential adventures, museum explorations, and cultural excursions, students at OBA are encouraged to step into new environments that challenge and inspire them.

These experiences are not only curriculum‑enhancing but also life‑shaping, helping students to build confidence, develop resilience, and cultivate a lasting love of learning. To see highlights from past trips, please visit our Facebook page.

Here are some of the trips and visits that are taking place in the coming months:

Residential Trips

Current Gold D of E students will be participating in the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Qualifying Expedition which is taking place in Dartmoor. After a year or more of hard work, both Year 12 and Year 13 students are well-prepared, and we are looking forward to seeing them put their skills into action.

Students in Year 7 are invited to attend a two day/one-night celebratory end of year residential trip to Overstrand Hall in Norfolk for an exciting adventure holiday to include activities such as archery, abseiling, orienteering and water sports. The cost covers all food, accommodation, transport and insurance.

This end of term trip will leave on Thursday 16th July (am) and return on Friday 17th July (pm) and offers more than just adventure! On land, water and in the air, Year 7 will discover how ‘giving it your all’ brings its own rewards. Whether it’s finding the courage to jump backwards off an abseil tower or working together to build a raft and race across a lake they will strengthen friendships, learn new skills and build confidence all while having fun and pushing their limits in a safe and supportive environment. been travelling with NST for the past two years and have been very impressed with their service. We are offering the option of a structured payment plan to help ease the financial burden of paying for this trip.

Ten students in Year 7 have been invited to take part in a very exciting and unique opportunity aboard a Challenger Yacht of the Tall Ship Youth Trust for a week’s voyage around the South Coast of England funded by Cross Keys Homes and supported by Ormiston Bushfield Academy.

The crew of 10 students from the Academy will live on board, supported by two staff members of Ormiston Bushfield Academy and three very experienced Tall Ships Youth Trust employees.  The distance they travel will depend on their ability to pick up the skills needed and work as a team.  They will undertake a variety of jobs from preparing food, to climbing the mast to swabbing the decks!  The students will be sleeping in bunks on board the yacht and will moor each evening at different marinas; Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth, Cowes, Poole and Weymouth.  If successful, the students will also gain a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) introductory sailing qualification.

Day Trips

We are a partner school of the Royal Shakespeare Company, and a small group of students have been invited to take part in a Performance event with the Youth Advisory Board. Leading up to this, there will also be two workshops in school.

The performance event will take place on the 20th and 21st November 2026 at a theatre in Stratford Upon Avon, Shakespeare’s birthplace. Food and a hotel for the students’ overnight stay will all be provided and funded by the RSC. This means that we just need to ask parents for a contribution towards travel.

In preparation for the performance event there will be 2 workshops led by members of the Royal Shakespeare Company in school on Friday 26th June 2026 and Friday 25th September 2026.

This will be a one-day trip to Peterborough City Centre and within the hours of the normal school day, looking at human geography and the quality of life in Peterborough city centre. The trip will give students an opportunity to study the quality of life in various places and ways, as well as to collect fieldwork data using a range of data collection techniques.  Our students need to collect and analyse data to help them prepare for the Paper 3 Geography examination which contributes 30% to their overall grade.
