Residential and Day Trips

At OBA, we recognise the profound impact that trips and visits can have on a student’s education. Beyond the classroom, these experiences enrich learning, foster independence, and inspire a deeper engagement with the world.

Throughout the academic year, we offer a diverse programme of opportunities designed to broaden horizons and spark curiosity. From theatre performances and university lectures to residential adventures, museum explorations, and cultural excursions, students at OBA are encouraged to step into new environments that challenge and inspire them.

These experiences are not only curriculum‑enhancing but also life‑shaping, helping students to build confidence, develop resilience, and cultivate a lasting love of learning. To see highlights from past trips, please visit our Facebook page.

Here are some of the trips and visits that are taking place in the coming months:

Residential Trips

Students in Year 7 are invited to attend a two day/one-night celebratory end of year residential trip to Overstrand Hall in Norfolk for an exciting adventure holiday to include activities such as archery, abseiling, orienteering and water sports. The cost covers all food, accommodation, transport and insurance.

This end of term trip will leave on Thursday 16th July (am) and return on Friday 17th July (pm) and offers more than just adventure! On land, water and in the air, Year 7 will discover how ‘giving it your all’ brings its own rewards. Whether it’s finding the courage to jump backwards off an abseil tower or working together to build a raft and race across a lake they will strengthen friendships, learn new skills and build confidence all while having fun and pushing their limits in a safe and supportive environment. been travelling with NST for the past two years and have been very impressed with their service. We are offering the option of a structured payment plan to help ease the financial burden of paying for this trip.

Ten students in Year 7 have been invited to take part in a very exciting and unique opportunity aboard a Challenger Yacht of the Tall Ship Youth Trust for a week’s voyage around the South Coast of England funded by Cross Keys Homes and supported by Ormiston Bushfield Academy.

The crew of 10 students from the Academy will live on board, supported by two staff members of Ormiston Bushfield Academy and three very experienced Tall Ships Youth Trust employees.  The distance they travel will depend on their ability to pick up the skills needed and work as a team.  They will undertake a variety of jobs from preparing food, to climbing the mast to swabbing the decks!  The students will be sleeping in bunks on board the yacht and will moor each evening at different marinas; Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth, Cowes, Poole and Weymouth.  If successful, the students will also gain a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) introductory sailing qualification.

Day Trips

This educational trip to Burghley House, Stamford, is aimed at enriching our Year 7 students’ learning and experiences in the local historic environment. It offers them a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the captivating world of Tudor History.

The itinerary includes the ‘Meet William Cecil Experience’, guided house tour, architecture tour and visit to the gardens.  The trip leaves OBA at 8:45am and is expected to return by 03:00pm.

As part of the Year 9 cross curriculum project, we are excited to offer the opportunity for our Year 9 students to attend Bletchley Park – Home of the code breakers.

“Once the top-secret home of the World War Two Codebreakers, Bletchley Park is now a vibrant heritage attraction, open daily.

Immersive films, interactive displays, museum collections and faithfully recreated WW2 rooms will guide you on a journey to discover the past at Bletchley Park. Exhibitions, set within beautifully restored historic buildings, tell the story of this once top-secret operation. Find out more about the brilliant minds and complex machines that made this vital work possible and discover the global impact Bletchley Park had on the outcome of WW2.”

We will be travelling to Bletchley by coach and aim to leave the Academy at approximately 9am. We aim to arrive back at the Academy between 4-4.30pm, depending upon traffic, although final details will be given closer to the day.

We are delighted to offer our Sixth Form Performing Arts students the amazing opportunity to visit the Royal Opera House for an exclusive backstage tour of the venue and meet some of the staff who work there. This is a very rare opportunity to see one of the UK’s most prestigious theatres from a different perspective and learn some insider secrets from staff at the theatre. Afterwards, the students will attend a musical theatre performance.

The students will be given the opportunity to judge the effectiveness of different coastal management strategies along the coastline. They will undertake fieldwork techniques and practices to compare the defence of the coastline in the town and along a rural stretch of coast to see the impact of erosion.

Our students need to collect and analyse data to help them prepare for the Paper 2 Geography examination which contributes 30% to their overall grade.  As well as being a wonderful opportunity to gain personal experiences field work, this trip compliments the human fieldwork which will be carried out in July, both are compulsory as they cover different aspects of the specification.

This trip is an excellent opportunity for Year 10 and Year 12 Art and Photography students to deepen their understanding of art and photography and to gain inspiration from some of the country’s most important collections. This visit will provide students with the opportunity to experience world-class galleries, including Tate Modern, and, for some, to develop their own practical photography skills in an inspiring urban environment.

This will be a one-day trip to Peterborough City Centre and within the hours of the normal school day, looking at human geography and the quality of life in Peterborough city centre. The trip will give students an opportunity to study the quality of life in various places and ways, as well as to collect fieldwork data using a range of data collection techniques.  Our students need to collect and analyse data to help them prepare for the Paper 3 Geography examination which contributes 30% to their overall grade.
