Residential and Day Trips

At OBA, we recognise the profound impact that trips and visits can have on a student’s education. Beyond the classroom, these experiences enrich learning, foster independence, and inspire a deeper engagement with the world.

Throughout the academic year, we offer a diverse programme of opportunities designed to broaden horizons and spark curiosity. From theatre performances and university lectures to residential adventures, museum explorations, and cultural excursions, students at OBA are encouraged to step into new environments that challenge and inspire them.

These experiences are not only curriculum‑enhancing but also life‑shaping, helping students to build confidence, develop resilience, and cultivate a lasting love of learning. To see highlights from past trips, please visit our Facebook page.

Here are some of the trips and visits that are taking place in the coming months:

Residential Trips

We are excited to offer English A Level students in Years 12 and 13 the opportunity to visit Whitby to support their study of Dracula. Bram Stoker, the author of Dracula, first visited Whitby in 1890, and his stay profoundly influenced the creation of his masterpiece, weaving the town’s dramatic landscape and local legends into the fabric of the story.

During the visit, students will take part in Whitby’s ‘Dracula Experience’, enjoy an evening Ghost Walk, and explore the grounds of Whitby Abbey, including the famous 199 steps. Students will also have time to explore Whitby independently and immerse themselves in its breath-taking scenery.

Bookings are currently open for English A Level Students.

This trip will help to provide valuable experience with the historic Western Front environment, give students appreciation for the sufferings of those impacted, and support their learning in the classroom.

This year we have chosen to run the trip from Thursday 30th April 2026 – Saturday 2nd May 2026. This is the bank holiday weekend, so please ensure there are no prior commitments before booking. By running the trip at this time, we can ensure staff and students still get a full two-day weekend after arriving back on Saturday evening.

Students going on this trip will need to have a valid passport with them as well as a GHIC card (health insurance card). For students holding a non-British passport, it is also vital that right of residency documents are obtained prior to the trip – in line with UK and EU guidelines. Please ensure arrangements in this regard are made well in advance of the trip to ensure that your child can attend.
